Congratulations to VAPI for Raising $20M Series A.

Use the vapi voicebot, you’ll be impressed, and check out the docs.

At TADSummit we’re fans of VAPI, here’s the podcast we did with Nikhil Gupta, their CTO, see below. As covered in Dave Horton’s TADSummit session, How Jambonz is changing the world of programmable telecoms, VAPI uses Jambonz. The best voice AI companies use the best open source platform for voice.

Dave highlighted most of the companies in the TADSummit panel discussion use Jambonz, And it’s not just start-ups, Jambonz is carrying millions of calls in Fortune 50 businesses through its partners. VAPI is built on the best.

TADSummit Panel Discussion. Are LLMs about to disrupt enterprise SaaS (Software as a Service)? Includes: Karel Bourgois, Founder & CEO Voxist; Paul Sweeney, Co-Founder and Chief Strategy Officer, Webio; Lyle Pratt, Vida.io Founder & CEO; Nikhil Gupta, Founder, CTO @ Vapi (YC W21)RJ Burnham, Founder & CEO at Consig AI.

Let’s focus on VAPI.

Vapi announced a $20 million Series A round from Bessemer Venture Partners leading this round, and Abstract Ventures Inc., AI Grant, Y Combinator, Saga Ventures, and Michael Ovitz for joining VAPI’s mission. Vapi was valued at $130M, that’s impressive.

This quote from Nikhil sums up VAPI’s mission for me: “this revolution needs a better platform. models are magic, in the same sense that ibm mainframes and punched cards were magic. last 50 years have shown, reducing the schelp to the magic, that’s the unlock to changing the world.

“Often, people don’t even realise they’re talking to an AI agent when they interact with our technology,” says Jordan Dearsley, CEO of Vapi, “And even if they do, they’re happy with the way that the agent resolves their query.”

Vapi’s trajectory is is amazing:

  • October 2023: 6 brave startups took a chance on us
  • March 2024: Product Hunt launch that started everything
  • Today: Millions of calls processed daily, 100,000+ developers building with us

Nikhil always keeps is real, focusing on what their developers need:

  • better uptime
  • reliable agents
  • faster development cycles

uptime: there’s only a couple hundred people in the world who know how to scale real-time distributed systems. it’s the hardest freakin systems problem.

reliable agents: love o1 but that’s paradigm for seconds. we operate in ms domain, real-time reasoning. distillation gets you far but not enough, lot more juice to extract.

faster development cycles: telephony was invented before the internet. integration into these systems is archaic. that’s even before you think about development process of agents.

There’s a $3T customer service industry waiting for vapi. P.S. They are hiring.

Well done Nikhil and Jordan!
