It’s been almost one month since the last Truth in Telecoms, our interview with Wahab Sultan. For those of you that follow Johnny on Linkedin and Twitter will know he’s been busy posting over this month. This episode gave a chance to present some of the gems posted through November.
Johnny opened with congratulations for the TADSummit event, we’re close to 60k views of the TADSummit videos since the event. We have articles on each of the presentations that are original, insightful, innovative and most of all truthful.
A big change in the past month is the incoming FCC chair Brendan Carr. Brendan was an intern at the FCC 20 years ago! He brings lots of experience, and the backing of a party that has never had such control. See Eric Troutman’s comments on this situation. It’s going to be an interesting 4 years.
Many of the points Johnny makes are directly to Brendan Carr. Senator Mark Warner, described the China-linked hack the “worst telecom hack in nation’s history.” The reason is the politicians and their family members are being spied on. This hits close to home, and will drive action through the coming administration. Here’s Johnny’s post on that topic.
Johnny is a big fan of Elon Musk and thinks if he’s goes after robocalling and spam text, it will be solved. I’m more on the fence as the current telecom ecosystem is biased to inaction, as they make money from spamming grandma. See my Honest CPaaS review from TADSummit. I agree an independent actor that is willing to knock over and break things is required. But the government reset is a Sisyphean task in my opinion, and could keep Elon pre-occupied.
Johnny then breaks the news that Google’s RCS platform is up for sale. The concern is given the new administration has its sights set on Google. RCS is too high profile to be owned by Google. Also Google could lose the Chrome browser.
In more breaking news, Tata Communications attempts to sell TCR have not yet been successful. Tata owning TCR is unlikely to be viewed favorable by the coming administration. Here is Johnny’s post proposing his firm (TCR Acquisition) buy TCR (The Campaign Registry), and donating it to iConectiv. Buying the Google’s RCS platform, as well as TCR, sort of makes sense. And consolidates some of the US messaging monopolies.
An important aspect of TADSummit is its a community of innovators that are outside the old-boy’s telecom grift. See my Honest CPaaS review from TADSummit where I point out some of the grifts from around the world. And those grifts are stealing from US businesses in particular many web companies. See Elon Musk’s complaint on $60M per year being stolen from Twitter by AIT (Artificially Inflated Traffic).
Johnny makes an important point, TADSummit is where the industry has open and frank conversations. See Robert Vis, founder and CEO of Bird, on MEF. TADSummit is the only place such an open and honest conversation is possible. Why does that happen? The TADSummit community is packed with innovators. Corruption happens where legacy companies attempt to stop innovation, to keep themselves in control. TADSummit and TADHack are focused on innovation, doing things better for the customer.
Johnny reviews some of the bad behavior covered in Major Bill Peter’s complaint. For example, the cover up of interference in 10DLC election advertising. He also reviews some of the companies and why they are in their current situations, see Johnny’s Twilio and Sinch post.
With the new administration foreign owned entities active in the US telecoms market need to ensure they are clean across voice and messaging. Politicians are up in arms about being spied upon.
Johnny broke more news with what is claimed to be a replacement for TCR, GCH Technologies. It’s hard to tell from their website, but the people involved certainly have relevant experience.
To wrap-up, Johnny name dropped a few of the world-class innovators presenting at TADSummit. Check out the TADSummit agenda for DAY1 and DAY2 to see the quality and truth of what TADSummit delivers.
